ARTIST BIOGRAPHY

From composing to singing to creating to producing

Shea Breaux Wells is a genre-fluid vocalist, songwriter, and arranger whose voice and vision carve a distinct path through the jazz lineage into the liminal harbor where genres anchor into fresh new imaginings—lit with originality and reverence. With phrasing as unexpected as it is intentional, and a tone that is both muscular and vulnerable, Shea reshapes every song she touches—whether a 1920s standard or a modern meditation—into something newly alive. As Jazz Weekly notes, “Her husky and earthy voice reaches deep into the soil for the root of the piece… she is completely unintimidated.”

With deep gratitude for the tradition of Texas, Louisiana, and Kentucky that raised her, Shea has shared the stage and studio with a remarkable constellation of artists, including George Cables, Robben Ford, Trevor Dunn, Billy Hart, Cecil McBee, Bill Ortiz, Craig Handy, Noam Lemish, and David Weiss. Each collaboration has deepened her expression while honoring the sacred thread of jazz and beyond.

Far from conventional, Shea’s live performances are experiential journeys—innovative, alive, and fiercely present. One set may stretch from the angular brilliance of Thelonious Monk to a funk-laced reimagining of a David Byrne tune; another may linger in the innovation of Björk, tumbling into the spiritual atmospheres of Coltrane before blooming into an original composition - something esoteric and wholly her own.

Shea’s original pieces begin at the piano—raw and vulnerable—as she navigates the inner landscape, from delicate, introspective ballads to searing, desert-born soundscapes that dissolve into the warm fires of a home we are all seeking to return to. Her music transcends the boundaries of labels.

Shea is immersed in a current of creative motion—composing new material, forging integral collaborations, while also shaping a network for international creative engagement for creatives in specific genres.

Whether performing, creating, deepening creative partnership, or guiding others through their own expressive terrain, Shea brings depth, vision, and inner creative fire to everything she touches.
